dc.description.abstract Aim: To determine the frequency of Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) in newly diagnosed cases of type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. Settings: Department of Medicine, Combined Military Hospital, Bahawalpur. Duration of study: From: July 2016 to December 2016. Methodology: A total of 100 newly diagnosed cases of type II diabetes mellitus between 30-65 years of age of either gender were include in the study. Patients were followed for detailed history and then fundoscopy was performed. We ensured to perform fundoscopy by a single consultant ophthalmologist so that any bias may be avoided while diagnosing diabetic retinopathy.Results: Mean age was calculated as 45.31±8.14 yeas, 54(54%) were male and 46(46%) were females. Frequency of diabetic retinopathy in newly diagnosed type II diabetes mellitus was recorded in 14(14%) cases. Conclusion: The frequency of retinopathy in newly diagnosed cases of type 2 diabetes mellitus not as higher but early identification in newly diagnosed cases is necessary and every newly diagnosed case should be examined properly. en_US
