Abstract:
A white colored layer is casted on the machined work piece using EDM (Electric Discharge Machine). The major difference unlike other processes is that the process uses EDM that creates a higher surface coarseness. EDM fundamental parameters have a direct link with the generation of white recast layer, facial surface morphology, cracks and surface texture. For Al 6061 specimen the determined value of facial surface morphology is being obtained by changing the value of electric current on die sinking EDM machine. Material removal rate, facial surface roughness & facial surface morphology against electric current are calculated, considering a number of distinct values of current. Globule formation is related to the worked upon surface with the current during the process. Research carried out includes scanning electron microscopy (SEM), metallurgical microscopy and surface Roughness, hardness and fatigue life testing of aluminum alloy. The recast white layer thickness and diameter of cracks are found to show an increment by enhancing electric current.
