dc.description.abstract Fourteen wheat cultivars were screened against various salinity levels on the basis of their seedling growth performance up to 17 days. Twenty seedlings of each cultivar were transplanted on nylon mesh frames floating on 'A strength Hoagland nutrient solution in plastic containers and exposed to salt stress up to 225 mol mr3 NaCl. The fresh weight of shoot decreased with the increasing salinity levels. The Chinese cultivars, Bao119 was found to be salt tolerant whereas c.v 86-6 showed the lowest tolerance to salts. Relation between salt tolerance and ion accumulation is discussed in the text of this paper. en_US
