Abstract:
The Magnetic Electron Drift Vortex (MEDV) modes in a homogeneous magnetized plasma are investigated using the Braginskii's fluid model for electrons. It is found that the modes become unstable when the propagation is in both parallel and perpendicular directions with respect to density and temperature gradients. The instability characteristics of the mode are presented by analyzing it analytically as well as numerically. The relevance to wave phenomena in space and laboratory plasmas is pointed out.
