Abstract:
The purified lipid fraction (4.12% on the dry weight basis) from the seeds of Albizzia lebbeck was found to be 87.76% neutral and 12.24 % polar lipids. The whole oil lipid contained 64.76% unsaturated and 34.99%10 saturated fatty acids. The fatty acid composition of hydrocarbon wax-ester- triacylglycerol and free fatty acid lipid classes generally contained higher amounts of 18:1 fatty acid (310%-33.4%) and lower amounts of 18:2 fatty acids (27.210%- 28.50%) as compared to diacylglycerol and monoacylglycerol fractions where 18:2 fatty acids were present in higher concentrations(31% -36.5%). The whole oil and polar lipids showed high percentages of 18:1 fatty acids.Long chain fatty acids (20:0 and 24:0) were generally more predominant than other saturated fatty acids in all the lipid classes. The seed protein(36.50%) was analysed for its amino acid composition where lysine was found to be present in high concentrations (31%-36.5%g). Total carbohydrate and fiber were found to be 37.58% and 10.80% respectively. The mineral Cot position of the total ash (4.0%) was also determined and found to contain varying amounts of calcium, potassium, sodium, iron, magnesium, manganese and copper.
