Abstract:
Zinc and Cadmium complexes with the amino acid, deoxyalliin (S-Allyl Cysteine), having the formulae [Zn(C6H10O2NS)2] and [Cd(C6H10O2NS)2] were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR, thermogravimetry-FT-IR analysis and X-ray diffraction studies. FT-IR shows the coordination through the nitrogen atom of the amino group and the oxygen of carboxylic group. Thermogravimetric analysis shows the decomposition of the complexes in two steps. X-ray diffraction analysis reveals the crystalline structure of complexes to be monoclinic (For zinc complex, a = 8.093, b = 20.126, c = 10.321, β = 103.20o, For cadmium complex, a = 15.276, b = 5.093, c = 8.991, β = 96.59o). Complexes are found to be polymeric with octahedral geometry around the metal atom.
