Abstract:
A series of W-type hexaferrites having composition Sr₃CexFe₁₆xO₂₇(x = 0.00, 0.02, 0.04, 0.06) has been prepared by the chemical co-precipitation method. The effect of cerium substitution at Fe site on the structural and electrical properties has been investigated. The XRD analysis confirms the formation of single W-type hexaferrite phase and various parameters such as lattice constants (a & c), cell volume (V), crystallite size (D), X-ray density (dx), bulk density (db) and porosity (P) were calculated from XRD data. The crystallite size is found in range of 15-23nm and this size is small enough to obtained suitable signal-to-noise ratio in high density recording media. The room temperature resistivity of the materials increases from 6.5×10⁸ to 6.57×10⁹ ohm cm with the increase in cerium content. The increase in resistivity reveals that the materials can be used for applications in microwave devices.
